The Lighthouse May Return — But the Catwalk Still Needs You

Another successful First Friday is in the books. A big thank you to everyone who stopped in at The Country Cupboard to purchase Save The Catwalk shirts and merchandise! Thanks also to those who bought raffle tickets from downtown businesses and from our roving catwalk supporters, Denise and Paula, who were on the prowl for buyers!

It is always energizing to connect with you, our supporters, and yesterday was no exception. The enthusiasm is infectious. Last night, we had a chance to meet and talk to Tom E. He stopped by The Country Cupboard to pick up a shirt and a poster, so he could “help get the word out.” The team from Millie’s stopped in and asked for more posters as well. We stopped in at Unbound Spirits to check in about next week’s bottle launch of “The Last Beacon”. All evidence that our grassroots effort continues to grow.

The lighthouse and catwalk together — the view we’re working to bring back.

We also heard about some confusion that was created with the announcement of the return of the lighthouse. So we wanted to set the record straight.

The lighthouse was recently repainted at Roen Salvage of Sturgeon Bay. According to the City of Algoma, there is a chance that the lighthouse could be returned this fall. This is dependent on the concrete of the new pier being ready and on Mother Nature cooperating. If this happens, it will be a welcome sight for all!

But there are no plans regarding return of the catwalk at this time. While there is public funding to return the lighthouse, there is no public funding for return of the catwalk. That is where we all come in and that is why our mission continues.

We must continue to raise private funds to rehab and return the catwalk. Without this effort, it will be lost forever. And we have made progress thanks to you and our grassroots effort. Every dollar you donate, every raffle ticket you purchase, every piece of merchandise you buy, all support this effort and make the return possible.

Here’s something else you can do — like Tom E., get involved and help us get the word out!

Come and join us at our upcoming events and bring a friend. There are so many opportunities to get involved.

  • Sell or buy some raffle tickets! Email savethealgomacatwalk@gmail.com if you would like some raffle tickets to sell. Still don’t have raffle tickets of your own? You can buy them at The Country Cupboard.
  • Buy a bottle of bourbon! Stop in at Unbound Spirits starting on Oct 9th for the launch of “The Last Beacon”. Do a tasting and make a purchase. Bring a friend.
  • Come to Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 17 at the Algoma Boat Club. We will draw our raffle winner, and have a bucket raffle and 50/50 raffle. There will be music, food, cold beer, and gemütlichkeit (that’s German for good cheer).
  • Start your holiday shopping by checking out our online catalog.
  • Put up a poster! If you would like to get a poster for your workplace or business, email savethealgomacatwalk@gmail.com.
  • Bring your energy to our committee! Join us for our next meeting on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the Algoma Boat Club.

With your help, we can Save The Catwalk so that it can once again stand alongside its brother, the lighthouse.
